I'd sure call that progress indeed.

Being sick of broken Celery and K8 boards, I decided to order an Atom board for my NAS project instead; http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Overview/EN/Mother...
Nothing special, but it was cheaper than the parts I'd need to fix either of the other solutions, except maybe the K8, but it'll make that fiver back in electricity savings in no time. It's basically just the single core version of what this server is running on, so it's a fairly safe bet it'll be fine sitting in a corner running FTP/SMB tasks.

Nice choice. I have thought of using an OrangePI Plus 2 or something instead, yet it is not on my top priority at the moment. Need to finish up a lot of projects, so it has been on hold for some time. Now you are saying Samba sharing? Will that be some sort of Unix or Linux that you will be using? If so, then you need to take a look at a browser tool that you install on top of Linux. Like Webmin.

As for me, I have finally got that Thinkpad X220 that my father in law had gotten for free, and he has then given it to me for free. I have tried tons of Linux distributions on it, and so far I like Ubuntu Mate the best. Then problem is that I have not had any luck getting Samba running, in order to share on a Windows network. So far only Kubuntu and Linux Mint have been a success.... Need to see if I can get it going on Ubuntu Mate, else I will see if I can get it going on Xubuntu.

I run Xubuntu 18.04 as a server with SAMBA configured to work with Windows back to 3.11 / DOS.

Hell no, no Linux around here, it'll be running the same stripped down XP installation as the Celery board was. It's fast, it works out of the box (especially with an install script) and requires basically no intervention or third party tools to do its job.

I have however, had much fun over the years. Using Ubuntu-server installed on various hardware. Using the installation as a NAS this way. Just the basic install and SAMBA configured to automatically add a specific set of directories as folder in Windows, whenever you log into Windows using a specific login. Not hard to do, and I get to configure, using remote console. Really fast and nice to do this, as I can just place the server werever I want and have it as a headless setup. Yet since 2016, I have not had any server running. I wanted to save power, so the plan is to use a SBC machine. Namely an Orange PI that has a sata port. I have all, just missing a projects case from China and a silent fan plus find a nice PSU solution. Like a meanwell.

#Waybacktech + DXZeff.
Just a matter of choosing the right tool that works for you and your needs. Hell... Even BSD Unix can be used if that is a personal choice in flavour. It is like the same with fruit salad. One like it with oranges, the other hate oranges in his or hers fruit salad.

Setting up Ubuntu Mate 18.04 on my "new" Thinkpad X220 laptop. So far, I have Samba up and running. And I have updated the installation with stuff like media codecs, flash and Oracle Java. Background images are in place and I am copying the image directory from the Xubuntu installation to the Ubuntu Mate installation as of now. The terminal is set up as well, and the Linux version of Etcher is installed as well. Oh boy, the X220 is fast, and I only have 8gb of Ram on it right now. Planning to upgrade it to 16gb in the future.

I am starting a new ultimate retro gaming machine build. It has been a long time since I saw a case call out that it supports BABY-AT form factor. There will be black light glowies. I may get another one of these LanParty boards soon because of the processor that it comes with. Right now I have a 4600+ 2M chip, which is somewhat on the rare expensive side now days, but ultimate would be the 4800+. Plan is for CL2 ram, unfortunately seems to be only available in 512MB sticks. Probably will go an SLI pair of 8800 GT's, though the XFX 7950 is perfect for that lanparty color. I specified an Orange case from the seller.

I so fucking love that cooler. The case is not quite my cup of tea though. What operating system will you install on it?

I honestly can't say my hopes are high for that board, DFI's consumer division were rapidly swirling down the shitter by the time that made, so it'll either be a swansong or a complete turd. Here's hoping they managed to make a good one on this occasion instead of the broken stuff they were usually producing at the time. A lot of once good board makers seemed to disappear overnight around then, Chaintech, DFI and ABit mostly, they just kinda fizzled out.

The NAS is now running with the Atom 230 board, seems to work, haven't tested the speeds extensively yet but as it's measuring in the MByte/s rather than the steady 150-300KByte/s that I'd get talking to an NT6 machine, it's gonna be good enough.

After years of using the Nokia 1100 I have had to cave in and order a new phone. Not a fan, can't find one with the features I want and actual buttons, so I'll have to find a way of chaining a stylus to it. It is a boring slab like any other modern 'phone' but if you really want to see it, here; https://www.alcatelmobile.com/alcatel-3v.html
What bugs me is finding a monitor of that resolution and quality for that price point (this is a sub-£80 phone) would be impossible, but then according to NEC you can't make a panel with that pixel density anyway, despite these phones begging to differ.

@brostenen XP Pro even though the 8800gt's are DX10 / Vista. Will be running 2GB of ram mainly because I want the CL2 which is 512MB so no need to run 64bit.

Ultimately I wanted to run TracerX ram and I do have some DDR stuff, but I can't remember at the moment if I have 2 or 4 sticks and if 1 is bad, seems like 1 was bad but that might have been a DDR2 stick. Anyway those DDR Tracer sticks have been non existent on ebay for a very long time, only see the DDR2 stuff which is still not overly common.

Bought 2 8800gt's, Alpha Dog Edition WOO! ha ha. I still would prefer the XFX 7950 because of the neon glowing bits, but the guy that had a bunch yesterday conveniently sold out by today. One Alpha Dog is still in box, so that is the one I chose to share photo of. The other card was just the card itself but was $15.

Some more items for the build -

Uploaded Image Got both pairs the seller had.

@dxzeff If the board doesn't work or has some kind of impossible quirk, guy said it worked, but I already have a system with this board in it, paired with the X2-4600 so if nothing else I have a fall back board, which in itself is a top board for the 939 too.

Other side of the coin, picked this up from the guy in Latvia. Says it works and I have bought some 486 boards from the guy before so he has been a good source of interesting rare boards. Anyway this should be fun to mess with.

MSI P54C SI7 SIS chipset.

Testing a new SD2IEC drive and a new Epyx FastLoader Redloaded. Load times are reduced dramatically. One cracktro loaded in 11 seconds with the Fastloader, and 53 seconds without the Fastloader.
