TM Crusoe Posts: 671 | I had the Amiga500 that I bought on the desk for service today. And yes, it is indeed a full ECS version of the non-Plus machine. Commodore never build this revision with battery, and it can be converted to full Plus if I want to. However this is not for modding at all. I have done a Plus convertion on my first 8a.1 machine. However as cheap as it was, then it was NOT in working condition, as described by the seller. I suspect the seller had it powered on, but not tested. Power led activating is not the same as working. The machine had two things wrong with it. The first was the trapdoor memory module that was faulty, and the other was the floppy drive. I threw the mem module out and I have saved the drive for later, to see if I can fix it. I installed a stock PC drive and connected my last PC-Amiga floppy drive converter cable between the drive and the board. And I installed an a512 Ram module that Individual computers have manufactured. So now I have a working Amiga500 Rev. 8a.1 with everything working. I will buy a gotek solution for this one, with a bracket that have a fake eject button, and then have the oled and selector switch on top of the grill. And do the same with an RGB-to-HDMI solution. Those two mod are non destructive to the case it self. Going to keep it as close to original as possible. Ended up running memory test one hour, then watched 10 demo's. 100% stable and no issues.... Sweet!!!! TM Crusoe Posts: 671 | tedster - 2022-01-18 2:05 AM If you have the space and don't need the money, keep it intact. They're only getting harder to find. There's something appealing about a nice original machine. There are just these two non destructive mod's that I want to do. I need to have it modernised. Using a USB-key to load software and have the option of HDMI for the image. I plan laser opgrade for my tank mouse as well.

TM Crusoe Posts: 618 Location: Hull, UK | Indeed, hoping you had a good one. In the mean time, I've had little opportunity to do much due to electrical inspection and having to be at the hospital. That's all done with now, though, and I have upgraded my workstation's GPU from a GT 730 to a GTX 750. Not a huge leap, but it's good enough, just in time for me to reach the end of the ~5000KM road in The Long Drive:

TM Crusoe Posts: 671 | Thanks all.... It was a quiet birthday that I had. I was alone and by my self the entire day. This week I were with my children and their mother in a holliday home, at something called "Skallerup Klit Feriecenter" here in northern jutland. They had been given a free week for two adults and three children. Though we are not together as a couple, we have no trouble and issue with this. We just sleep in seperate room's. But I was the first one up every morning, and prepared breakfast for them all, and I were the cook all week. We do these things from time to time, because we are still parents, and our children did not decide to get born and they are not at fault that their mother and fathers love dried up. Anyway.... I have managed to snag up these two things. Xbox360 (250GB storage), fully working with 20 games and two black controllers, at 50 Euro (plus shipping). Only issue was that one of the battery holder's had "tired" springs in the bottom. So it would shut off, when shaking the controller or tapping on the battery pack. The solution were to add some aluminium foil in the bottom of the battery-holder. Then I found this boxed and fully complete sound card at 27 Euro (plus shipping). As far as I can tell, then it is a late-1990-era sound card. I bet it were expensive back then, because it has a lot of software, there is an external module with ports and thick manuals. TM Crusoe Posts: 618 Location: Hull, UK | Be very, very careful with the driver CD for that sound card. I have one, with the official pressed disks and it rootkitted my K6 with something. I don't think Deksor had this issue, so it's probably just my bad luck and there was maybe a really short run of affected discs. Can't find anything about it on the internet, unfortunately. I'm 99% certain you'll be fine and even if not, it can do little more than cause mild annoyance at this point as whatever it connected to is long gone - basically you'll just get constant 'MSN Setup' windows or the Dial-Up dialog at startup time if affected. The card seemed decent, but I went back to the AWE 64 before really testing it. As I have to get a single Pentium III working some day, mine will probably go to that eventually instead, albeit with the drivers downloaded from the internet - those don't seem to be affected at all.

I think I will test the card with my ECS Pentium4 Socket 478 board. It is a really low class board, and if everything goes well, then I can use the software and card on my K7S41 board with that GeodeNX CPU. I know that is a fairly stupid CPU, but it is SocketA and not many boards support it. It is low power hungry, compared to AthlonXP, and that is why I love that setup. With Win2000 on it, then it is a nice board. I don't want to go XP, as it is kind of a pain to cheat and activation, and Win2K requires less memory.

TM Crusoe Posts: 671 | tedster - 2022-03-06 7:00 AM I've put my copy of XP up on Mega, should you want it? Thanks. But I will go the 2K way. Never the less, it is good to have that XP ready. One never know when it will become relevant. As for what I have gotten recently. Bought an MS branded stearing wheel and pedals for Xbox360. And two brand new copies of Forza3, still in factory wrapping. One for me and one for my brother. As I have also bought an Xbox360 for my brother, for his 40'th birthday. I dont know if I have mentioned the machine before here in this tread, but he is kind of sad that he can not use his Japanese dreamcast, due to the 110/220 volt issue. So he is getting an Xbox360, as it is really close to Dreamcast. Else nothing more from here. Been playing a bit of Forza4 lately. I think it is close to Gran Turismo 6. Personally I love playing racing games with xbox controller, and I love playing fighting games such as DOA with Playstation controller. No console is perfect is what I say. I just like gaming on consoles. When it comes to computers, then I want nothing never than Win98. Except for mid-00's games on Mac OsX. Really a strange and nice experience to play Return to Castle Wolfenstein and BF1942 on Mac. Oh well.... What can I say. I simply just love computers and not just one single platform. Computers are nice. Edited by Brostenen 2022-03-06 6:51 PM

Rise MP6 Posts: 263 | Ha! I've got an xbox 360, I'll have to dig it out and see if it still works sometime. Today's foolery involved fitting a T P Link M4 Mesh wifi system to Ted Towers. It was a piece of piss to configure and seems to work really well. It's nothing fancy, only wifi 5 but seeing as I don't have any devices any faster, it suits me. I like T P Link gear, it's always been pretty solid for me.

TM Crusoe Posts: 671 | Recieved this little (actually big) thingy this past weekend. It is an external harddrive for Amiga500. It has 1 x SCSI port, 2 x IDE port and room for up to 8mb Ram. The bad news is that it was sold without any PSU, so I can not test it as of now. The good news is, that I can power it from the Amiga500's Zorro bus, if I do a little hardware mod to it. Basically just hooking up 12 and 5 volt, with the use of two wires. Now comes the bad news, that is the Amiga can not provide all the AMP's that are needed for platter drives. To say it short, I will need to use flash drives. Eighter CF or SD cards with the use of SCSI or IDE adaptor. However this is kind of a nice little thingy that I have gotten my hands on. It has the option of booting from Kick 1.2 or Kick 1.3 and it has a dedicated switch to turn on or off HDD and Ram. That is independently. As an example running with Ram off and HDD on, the other way around, both off or both on. And yeah. Room for 8mb Ram in total. I so hope it is still working. I opened it up and took a quick sniff at the board. No smell of burned electronics at all. I guess it is a good sign. If it is working, then I will use it with my modded Amiga500 Rev. 8a.1 that are this "fake" Amiga500-Plus. I have it running with 2mb ChipRam, Kickstart switcher (1.3-3.1), BootSelector (makes system think external floppy is internal), RGBtoHDMI and Gotek drive. Basically it is a full Amiga500-Plus without the clock circuit and have never had battery installed, and heavy upgraded with goodies. Makes a nice Amiga with lots of features.... I have been playing a lot of Forza the last couple of weeks. Dude.... I really love playing racing games on Xbox360. However fighting games such as DOA or Tekken, really sucks with Xbox360 controllers. With fighting games, I really need Playstation3. Good luck that I have a Playstation3 as well as a Wii. All three systems are so awesomme in their own way. None is better than the other if I look at it in general terms. Some games are better on some systems. Yes Gran Turismo 6 looks so much better than Forza 3 or 4. But what good is it, if the controller sucks for that type of gaming?

TM Crusoe Posts: 618 Location: Hull, UK | I am currently talking to you wirelessly from my Compaq Armada 3500. A while back I retired an old WAP, but suddenly considered using it this way. Conveniently it runs on 5V and draws only 250-300mA, so it can run from the USB port, too. The plan, then, is to just leave it in a compartment in the bag and just plug it into the laptop's CardBus NIC when needed.

TM Crusoe Posts: 618 Location: Hull, UK | OK, I think it's time I came clean. In the months since the Armada 3500 video released, I have been in talks with a company called Zheng Ni, who offered me decent return for signing with them. As of today, my YouTube channel, Web Site and Discord group are now properties of Zheng Ni International Media Group. What does this mean going forward? For starters, much more frequent uploads. It will be far easier for me as Zheng Ni have employed a professional writer and editor. I shall, however, retain some creative input over future content. They have also brought onboard two new presenters. Firstly there's Alex who I haven't met yet, but he sounds like a nice guy. He doesn't own any PCs yet, but he does find them interesting and has an excellent knowledge of smart phones and emulators. Zheng Ni believe that he will bring in a younger audience. He has been with the company for three years and I am confident he will bring something amazing and fresh to the channel. There is also Rebecca, who will improve our female representation. She has been working with Zheng Ni for four years and was their full time web designer until recently, as well as having released several Android games. She will also be handling our social media. Filming will now be done in a studio with professional equipment and the Zheng Ni team have been very supportive. Starting tomorrow, all content will no longer be under a Creative Commons license. This was a tough decision, but was a necessary sacrifice to ensure things went smoothly. With negotiations now complete, I leave you in their capable hands. As they intend to reset the forum, I suppose there's no harm in disclosing that I now earn 3% on all revenue generated. I also get to pick from a line of partners (Becky wasn't one of them, so she's single, boys!), but definitely keep that part quiet as she has to enter the country as a refugee to avoid some nasty paperwork. In any case, here's to the future, April Fools, suckas!

TM Crusoe Posts: 618 Location: Hull, UK | Indeed, not selling things out and it would seem like a bit of a waste if I did. Quite sloppy really, had to hastily crush the JPEG quality down when I realized they had stock image watermarks on them that weren't visible on my laptop's LCD. What isn't fools is that I bought an official case for my Satellite Pro 410CDT: I think it deserves a decent case after all of the beating it took getting the book done. The spare Armada can go in the generic case the Toshiba is in now and the other Armada has its own official, but boring, case on the way.

Rise MP6 Posts: 263 | April Foolery, you daft bugger! Had a weird one yesterday. Pulled the cmos battery from my win 7 rig that I've been meddling with, as it kept forgetting its bios settings. Sticking the multi-meter probes on it, found it to provide zero volts at random places on the + side of the cell but 3.3v on other places. WTF? How is that even possible? It's a single piece of metal. Beats the shit out of me!

TM Crusoe Posts: 618 Location: Hull, UK | Impurities and oxides in the metal, probably. I think they're made of aluminum, but I doubt it's very pure, so probably a composite aluminum alloy. If that alloy is poorly formed, then you could end up with an oxide or slag or something forming between the different constituents, thus preventing electrical continuity. If the alloy is really, really poor, then you could even end up with some kind of galvanic effects - curiously, these are not too dissimilar to how the battery itself works. I had a Slot 1 board years ago that constantly ran down its coin cell. It turned out that somewhere in the circuit was a near dead short that seemed to be in the PIIX4.

TM Crusoe Posts: 671 | Just bought this one. Sellers pictures. I need some motion-plus or what it is called, to be able to play Wii Sports Resort. Personally I love these Nintendo sports titles, and I have two other titles of Wii-Sport-Games already. The games and the console is just a plus and I will be diving down into softmodding now. I think it would be a great little emulator machine if I manage to do it. TM Crusoe Posts: 671 | Recieved my newly produced Amiga1200 case. At first I was not that happy with this type of grey, but the more I look at it, the more I actually like it. I honestly thought that the shade of grey were way darker. That said. Really cool product, and I like it a lot. My 1200 will now look even more sweet, and all I need now is new keycaps once they hit the market.... There is just one thing that I dont like with this case. Right at the Amiga-Logo on the top, there is a cutout on the backside of the case. This is for an LED if I wish to install a Gotek drive at some point. Sure it is more easy to just pop a part out, but if I dont use Gotek with LED, then it is a tiny eye sore. Else I have no real complaint about this case. EDIT: My 1200 have a new home now..... TM Crusoe Posts: 671 | After having softmodded that black Wii I bought, then I needed a classic type controller for emulation and that sort of stuff. So I found a Yoshi inspired (yes, why not) controller online for cheap. It plugs into the normal controller instead of the nunchuck. Anyone interrested in how to softmod, then I can provide a link to the instructions that I used for the process. All it takes, is a SD card and internet connection. It happens with the use of a static gateway adress or something like that. (Yoshi-Controller.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Yoshi-Controller.jpg (777KB - 191 downloads)
