Sorry... I have messed the link up. I was tired yesterday....

Here you go.....

As far as I can tell, they have adressed some of the issues that I had with the firmware. Yet I can not test it out, as my Amiga600 will not allow me to update it. If I do, the scandoubler will lock up or brick if you like, and the only way to get it working, is to update it in one of my Amiga500's. And I really do not want to stress the pin's any further. So I will leave the one in my Amiga600 well alone for now.

I tried something new. Making a youtube video about my Amiga500 Desktop. And boy do my English suck.

Well it's better than my Danish by a long way. Good job on the Amiga Desktop, definitely looks the part.

Hoping to get a video out by new year, but on a completely unrelated note, I've been trying to build Sonic Adventure levels in Build (Duke 3D's engine) of all things - ignore draw distance issue and lack of details, I don't have the models set up yet and the camera should never go to this corner.

In other news I'm gonna set up a new gas bike as the one I use now is rather worn. This vendor had a decent sale on so it seemed like a good Christmas present to myself.
https://www.gasbike.net/collections/2-stroke-bicycle-engine-kits/pro...
I only use this to pull the trash trailer and when it's too windy to pedal, I still prefer to ride the old heavy roadster under my own power, this will go on a cheap mountain bike or something that I don't much care for otherwise.

Thanks... I still think you can hear a distinct Danish accent, and therefor it really sucks in my eyes.
Now I am waiting for the VIC-II 6569 Revision5 chip that I bought. It should be one of the best VIC-II's out there.

Other than that, then I have found the reason why SuperMario-64 crashes on my C64 Breadbin.
The reason is that my machine have the VSP-Bug like so many others.
My Model-C is all right and do not have it. The reason for the bug, is an error in how the VIC-II communicates with the D-Ram.
The only two ways to fix it, are eighter to install some S-Ram or code around the bug.

Coding around, are kind of not an option with games or other software, and installing S-Ram are quite the task.
There are a ready-to-pop-in solution for the models with only two D-Ram chips.
Yet the 8 chip models (old longboards) can take the 2-chip solution, if you do aditional hardware hacking.

Basically.... I have been up to some good reading and googling for the last couple of days.
These are the findings that I have so far......

@Brostenen I thought the video was really well done, congratulations, your English is fine, love your Amiga too, fantastic looking machine. I have owned my old A500 since it was new, only upgrade it has ever had is a 512K trapdoor expansion and that was probably around 1990!!! It still works fine apart from a few dead keys, the membrane has taken some damage over the decades, but as I only use it as a game console really these days it's not much of a issue.

I finally got around to upgrading my main daily driver from aHP Proliant M115 AMD Opteron 1354 quad core(Made in Tokyo!),although I still find myself using the old Opti a lot of the time, I guess she was still more than good enough and familiarity counts for a lot, great old machine, with linux, 8 GB RAM and SSD even a machine from 2008 is still just fine for most things anyhow the "new" machine is still old, soon to be 10 years but it was such a great bargain I just couldn't resist the old beast, it's a bloody massive great thing, but very quiet and runs cool(as it should with that much cooling!).
Specs are as follow:
Intel i7 950 Bloomfield. 3.06 GHz 4 core/ 8 thread
Asus Sabretooth X58 Skt.1336 motherboard.
12 GB Corsair XMS 3 1600(6x 2GB sticks) triple channel
Titan Fenrir CPU Cooler.
Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB SSD
I TB Western digital black HD.
Xigmatek NRP 700w PSU
Silverstone Fortress FT-02 case.
EVGA Geforce GTX 760 SC.
Ubuntu Linux 19.10 (same as I use on the HP Opteron).
So far it's been brilliant, used for about 1 month now, had to change the thermal paste on the cooler first thing, god that was a trial, the cooler fan had been changed and to get to the mounts it had to come off, modified with studs and nuts and became an exercise in patience!! As at first she was running WAY too hot, 100C under full load, a blob of Arctic Silver AS5 later and she maxes out about 62c with the case fans on slow now, not bad for such a hungry old CPU.
More new stuff to follow.

Also got this pretty neat UMC 486 motherboard with soldered Green CPU. I love these things, and as this is such a neat and compact board I just had to have it. Only arrived today so not had time to test yet, but it was shown as working by seller whom I trust. Does anyone know the relavance of the "E" prefix and how it differs from other soldered UMC's or the ceramics for that matter?

Here is the final; neat thing I found PC related this year, a Hercules 8-bit video card and a TRL mono MDA monitor, really neat stuff. Here are some pics of it running with my suntaq 286 motherboard and Street Rod.

Thanks, but I still hear a slight Danish accent on the video. I am out of practice in regards to my English. Not spoken it in like 10 years or so. My German is way better. I am actually sitting here, thinking if I should upgrade it with the TF-530 that I have in my 500-Turbo-Edition and then move the IDE adaptor into my 500 in standard case. Yet I like the idea of having a tricked out 500 in standard case. On the other hand, a desktop case seems like the obvious choice for faster processor. And then there are the thing of me, wanting a pseudo 2000 machine, in stock speed, just with features like VGA out and stuff. Hmmmm..... If only I had a Vampire-V2 in Amiga500/2000 edition/version on hand.

That is a damn fine board. It will run nice with games such as Civilization and so on. You know, the 1988 to 1991 time frame.
What GFX card and sound card do you plan on using with that board?

I've been playing around with a 486 DX2/66 VLB system made by Ipex (Australian based system builder which seems to have outsourced manufacturing). I'm unsure of the origin of the board, but it uses a UMC UM82C482AF/UM82C481BF chipset. It has 8x1mb SIMMs installed.

The system had no L2 cache originally so I added 256k as I expected it might help. It works fine and is a little faster overall, but I noticed something odd regarding memory throughput/latencies in benchmarks after adding the L2.

BIOS Settings:

Uploaded Image Uploaded Image

Without L2

Uploaded Image Uploaded Image

With L2

Uploaded Image Uploaded Image

As you can see, memory bandwidth is roughly halved when L2 is enabled.

Anyone have an idea why this might be happening? The only thing I can think of is it might be interleaving the memory when L2 is disabled.

@CyrixInstead; That MDA is the sort of hardware I like to observe from a distance, it's cool but I'd never find anything to use it with.

@Retro Nuggets; Not sure, haven't played with my UMC82482 boar extensively yet, but on the 8498 I noticed performance was slightly better with 128K of cache than with 256K, this was very marginal. Perhaps try jumpering for 128K instead and test with that, it should be more than enough for 8MB of RAM anyway. You shouldn't have to worry about removing the additional chips whilst testing, the pinouts are the same, so half of it will just go unused when the board is set up this way, either with one of the pins on each chip being unused or with one bank of the chips being unused, if it offers a speed increase then you can remove the extra chips later.

Nice one! Blimey, not listened to a "tape" in donkeys years. They still have them on Amazon for a pound a piece for 90 min ones. I spotted them whilst looking for some "mini-DV" tapes for an old camcorder that I have, they had them for 2 pound a piece too!

Same here. I have too many tapes now. I think I managed to squeeze some 40 games onto one 60 minute tape, using turbotape function. And that tape is only about 75% full. I still have 5 unused 60 minutes tapes in my collection.

Oh the frustration of loading games off tape! Or when your favorite game wound itself around the roller and capstan shaft!

Hasn't some smart wonder come up with a USB emulator yet? Like the Gotek for floppies?

A lot of my tapes were destroyed by mice, luckily many of these were Type II 90 minute tapes, so I don't much care, still have a case full of Type I 60 minute ones filled with dictations from the college taken in the 80s, aside from the ones I've used.
Never got to play with DV outside of a course I went on because it was always cost prohibitive, pretty much went straight to USB/SD as I thought it was a better long term investment.

I think there might be emulators for the micros, I know the C64 has an SD card based one as I considered buying one years ago, but then remembered the C64 has no software worth bothering with that was worth sinking the three figure sum it cost. You'd at least hope they were more reliable than the Gotek's you mention, those things are utterly useless most of the time, they can only emulate 1.44M DOS formatted floppies, don't work in most things and seem to ruin USB drives before killing themselves, assuming they work to begin with. Those are at least relatively cheap, so I argue the HXC ones are worse because they are very expensive and just as bad. There's probably an argument that it's accurate emulation, given real floppies never work either.

There's the software Phils Labs has on his site for the Gotek, some German made program, I think. Limits the images to only 100 instead of the millions that the junk Chinesium allows that it ships with.

It's been spot on for me, using that, maybe I bought THE good one!

There are tons of options....

Tapuino
MP32C64
SD2IEC
PI-1541

You can even get more stuff, as those I listed are only a small handfull. And those I have listed, can be found as different devices as well.

There are also these floppy cables, that you connect one end to the C64 and the other end is plugged into a PC's parallel port. Then you run MS Dos 6.22 on the PC and a special Floppy Disk emulator. That way you can use an old PC as a Disk drive.

Think SD2IEC was the one I looked at for the C64.

Between trying to make Tomb Raider actually run (easier said than done) I built a new gas bike, but it's gonna need its frame changed, this one is fucked.

Not really, they don't seem that bothered, same as electric ones.

The controls don't seem to really map in Tomb Raider, best I ever got was it might accept an input in that option box, but it'd still also use the original map, so my preference for swapping action and jump wouldn't work. Even if the mappings didn't suck, it'd still be awful to control.
