Howdy, Spacedrone.

I don't really have a "daily driver" because it really depends on where I am and what I'm trying to get done. Lately I've spent a lot of time in front of the shed computer, which is some puny little Core i3 all-in-one thing that has naff all power or features, but is perfect for running videos, music or whatever while I'm working out there. Plus it cost about nothing and is better than the poor old Celery 600 it replaced a couple of years back. Unfortunately it's a modern system, so I have no love for it and see it purely as a tool, hence I haven't taken the time to actually remember what's in there aside from knowing it's an i3 and has an abysmally small and slow SSD that I'd like to get rid of.

Otherwise I've been trying to finish my book and that is done on the Satellite Pro 410CDT with Office 97. That system is a 90MHz Pentium with 48MiB of RAM and a C&T VGA chip. I have no intentions of moving to a modern version of Office, because the interface is crap and features seem to be missing. That and I wasn't at home much when I started writing it, so it was started on that system and can be finished on it.

If I'm working on music, the T3200SX often ends up doing MIDI control because it's very stable. The old Presler XE gets used to do recording and mixing, ideally, but sometimes not so much.

Similarly for games, a system gets chosen that can run it and then it'll be used for that until the game is finished. Usually something woefully underpowered for the task, generally; "How dare you tell me I need a 133MHz system to do this! 66MHz is enough... why is it running so badly all of a sudden? Well I've started down this path now, may as well finish it."

How about you?

First of all, thanks for such comprehensive answer!

Comparing to your configurations i'm a tad more modern person, but i'm trying to stay on Windows 7 with almost modern h/w.
Because windows 10 is pure mess, without any reference to convenience. Plus forced telemetry drives me nuts.
And yeah, watched your recent rant regarding quality of software: i agree that noways applications are designed on dumb iphones by people who are very irrelevant to computer industry.
Eg -> Win10: two control panels with not overlapping functions, such stuff should be banned.
They can't fix things up right from 2015. This is insane.

As for puters, have three of them.
Modern desktop for gfx: AMD 1950X with plenty of ram
Laptop for Renoise: Dell Precision 7510 (maxed out)
And one more laptop for testing: Dell M4700 (maxed out too)

Failed to install Windows NT4 and Windows 2000 on M4700.
But find out that Windows Server 2008 R2 is more responsive than Windows 7. I think i'll do the switch.
