| The sound card is the Creative Sound Blaster AWE64 Value CT4520. This card uses the Creative CT8920-NBQ chip as well as the Creative CT1972-UAS (Creative EMU8011-01) which is a later revision of the Creative CT1971-PCQ (Creative EMU8000) chip that was used on the AWE32.
Played in DOSMid V0.8 using the AWE32 Synth built into the AWE64's EMU8000 chip and recorded with the Creative Sound Blaster X-FI ExtremeMusic Sound Card. That hiss you are hearing is coming from the AWE64 Value. For a sound card that went for $100 US back in 1996-1997, I am impressed compared to the Roland Sound Canvas SC-55. No extra audio effects other than EQ have been added. I have enabled Creative 3D Stereo Environment in the settings through MS-DOS Mode under Windows 98 SE in order to expand the spaciousness of sounds in a traditional two-speaker system.
