Resources for vintage utilities. Mostly DOS utilities, some Windows as well. Cache/memory testing programs, Math-co processor emulation, benchmarking, BUG testing, special enhancement programs for Cyrix 486DLC, 586, 686, AMD K6 as well as many many other fun to play with stuff contained in these links.

Vintage operating systems and Software.

My all time favorite, Winworld! Everything is free, Gigantic database of operating systems, games and applications. Best of all NO registration required or payment to download these files.

Vetusware - Limited download without registration/fee. Still though, if you can get what you are looking for in 1 download, this is another huge resource of software.

Free vintage game downloads. Fantastic database of games for many computer platforms. Some games though are only Shareware however, especially if the game happens to also be on GOG.

A place where you can get many applications and games for pretty munch any Mircosoft/IBM OS up to 31st december of 1999 :

http://www.win3x.org

Keep in mind that this is a french forum so not everything would be interesting for you and some descriptions may not be translated accurately, but this should sufficient for you to understand. I've uploaded some of my games to that website ^^. At first they just copied roughly the stuff but now they tend to make sure that everything is copied correctly (for example at some point the game Tomb Raider was there but it didn't have any ambient sound because it was saved within an ISO file instead of a BIN/CUE. I helped them to fix that with my copy of the game ^^.

This site is perfectly usable with IE5.0 so you can actually browse it with windows 3.x/windows 9x with no problems !

Very valuable resources, I was sure I had added some of them already but I guess not, or it was in another thread and I can't be bothered to tidy it up - whichever thread grows the best will naturally stay higher in the list.

There are some utilities for the NexGen Nx586 here which I failed to find;
http://datasheets.chipdb.org/NexGen/
They were brought to my attention by "Brandon Upchurch" on YouTube.

These ISO files contain the essential updates in order to get Windows 2000, Windows XP (x86) and Windows Vista (x86 and x64) to either properly update or at best be able to install things such as drivers for things like video cards.

I have merged your post into this thread as I feel it fits better here.

Whilst I'm here, I don't remember if I ever posted these anywhere, so here are the otherwise impossible to find working drivers for the Hauppauge WinTV Celebrity, CinemaPro and HighQ cards with instructions included. Both the manual in PDF format and a text file explaining how to actually get the cards running in Windows 3.1 machines. Under Windows 95 it seems to work better if you set the resources manually in Device Manager instead of allowing the Plug & Play system do it for you. The included utilities are still 16-Bit only although the card does use a standard Video for Windows and MCI interface to other software, therefore it should work in almost any other software capable of using capture cards that runs under Windows 3.1/95

I dunno if you've seen this site before http://www.retroarchive.org/ one may have blown it off as limited a few years back, but it's steadily getting fatter. I particularly like the CDROM and FTP section that came online last year.

I've been using this one since back in the day, Snooper http://www.conradshome.com/jvias/ particularly handy for sorting out IRQ/DMA conflicts, allows you to edit basic CMOS settings, and I could get it on a bootable 1.44 disk with a few other things. I found it more trustworthy for reporting some settings, i.e. it saw what the hardware was actually set to rather than what dos was reporting it was set to. I'll admit that it's not the be all and end all of system information utils, but then neither are any of the others really, and it's often best to run your favorite 2 or 3 for sanity checking.

My memory of how fast particular VGA cards were back in the day is mainly based on the char per second benchmark in this, which might be more video memory speed dependent.

Edit: an addendum.... Ancient page, first came across it in the late 90s, poke around for other old stuffs, but pages with locally hosted utils, including old version of Sandra for win 9x.. http://www.computercraft.com/docs/prog.shtml
